Overview

New Place Japanese Kitchen, nestled on Beaufort Street in Mount Lawley, offers a charming gateway into authentic Japanese cuisine with a modern twist. This eatery serves a variety of well-crafted dishes, focusing on classics like Chicken Ramen and Pork Udon, alongside delightful Bento sets such as Teriyaki Fish and Karaage Chicken. Its menu skillfully balances comfort and variety, appealing to both casual diners and those seeking a hearty, satisfying meal.

The space itself is welcoming and clean, creating a relaxed atmosphere that’s well-suited for solo diners, families, or friends looking for a cozy spot. The seating area benefits from a tidy presentation, and the staff maintains a friendly and approachable demeanor, ensuring the overall experience feels personal and attentive. While the service is generally prompt, occasional slower moments have been noted when the restaurant isn’t busy.

One of the standout features is their extensive sushi offering. From vegetarian-friendly Mini Avocado and Tamago Sushi to gluten-free options like Mini Raw Salmon and Tuna Sushi, the variety embraces diverse dietary preferences. Sushi platters available in different sizes cater to gatherings, enhancing the venue’s appeal for group dining or casual sharing. However, some patrons find the rice-to-filling ratio in sushi to be a bit high, which slightly affects the balance of flavors.

Signature dishes such as the Chicken Ramen deliver warmth and depth, proving popular for a late lunch or dinner. The Teriyaki Fish Bento, while flavorful, has occasionally drawn remarks about saltiness. The tempura offerings, including veggie and prawn varieties, provide a light crunch but differ somewhat from traditional batter styles, with some indications of frozen ingredients. Nevertheless, these items maintain a respectable standard for both taste and portion size.

New Place Japanese Kitchen caters well to a diverse audience—those seeking quick, value-driven meals after midday and diners aiming for a quality sit-down experience. Online orders also benefit from incentives like discounts, encouraging takeout or delivery. The combination of affordable prices, generous serving sizes, and a menu that respects Japanese culinary heritage creates a satisfying balance for food lovers in Mount Lawley and beyond.

In summary, New Place Japanese Kitchen stands out for its friendly service, welcoming environment, and thoughtfully curated menu. While a few dishes could benefit from refinement to elevate authenticity and balance, the overall experience remains enjoyable. Whether indulging in a comforting bowl of ramen, sharing a sushi platter, or savoring a Bento set, this Mount Lawley gem offers a reliable spot for Japanese flavors presented with care and consistency.

The food is pretty good. My only gripe is that the sushi has a bit too much rice in proportion to the filling, so I buy elsewhere. Staff are always friendly and service is always prompt.

Decent prices, filling portions. The teriyaki fish was a bit too salty, and the tempura didn’t have much variety. It also didn’t use the traditional tempura batter, and the prawn tempuras seemed as if they were frozen. The udon soup tasted more like ramen but it was quite distinct and tasty. The golden buns were delicious, warm, crispy and paired well with the condensed milk. Definitely not as good as previous years when I’ve been, but still a nice meal. Service was very good though a little slow. We were the only people dining in - most people choose to deliver or pick up because there’s 5% off if you order online.

The food was yum! Good portion sizes at good prices. Their service was also nice, and the food didn't take too long to come out. I also like how they don't close after 2pm, perfect for a late lunch. I had a nice bowl of chicken ramen :)

Good food at a good price My wife and I went there for dinner recently. I had a bowl of Katsu Pork Rice. The food was hot and fresh. She had a Teriyaki Fish Bemto set and that tasted good as well. We also ordered a salad and a pot of tea, which was pretty big. All in all it was about 32 dollars
